In chapter 17, Jili is practicing the class education exhibition. She is a veteran in many speech contests, but she was still nervous, and she is worried about her class status. Although many people knows about ther class status, she decides that she will do best on this exhibition, and prove that her class status doesn't effects her presentation. After the practice, chairman Jin comes and compiments her. After few days, Jili is asked to come to chairman Jin's room, and she finds the thin face and other workers of the theater. Thin face asks Jili to betray her parents and join revolutionary China. The next day, she comes back to the school for the exhibition, but chairman Jin tells Jili that Fang Fang replaced her in the exhibit, becuase of Jili's class status, and she runs away.
